Piling Platform Design, Cardiff

Introduction:

In recent years, the risks of overturning of piling rigs and other tracked plant have been reduced by the construction of working platforms on which the plant travels and operates. We are experienced at undertaking reviews of the ground conditions at construction sites and can provide bespoke, fast and value-for-money working platform designs.

The designs are completed using standard methods published by the BRE. However, the most crucial element of the design are not the calculations themselves, but ensuring that the ground conditions beneath the platforms are adequately understood and considered in the calculations. This includes accounting for the effects of any changes in ground levels from the time of the original investigation.

Details:

Bouygues initially provided some outline information on the ground conditions beneath the site so we could implement a Piling Platform Design. Following enquiries, the site investigation report was made available.  This indicated variable ground conditions, including areas of reportedly organic-rich soils.  The site was also contaminated and was being remediated by the excavation of ‘dirty’ soils and the replacement with suitable clean fill material.

The designs are completed using standard methods published by the Building Research Establishment. However, the most crucial element of the design are not the calculations themselves, but ensuring that the ground conditions beneath the platforms are adequately understood and considered in the calculations.

We reviewed all the information provided and generated an appropriate, bespoke Conceptual Ground Model (CGM) for the area of the working platform, including for the remedial works undertaken.  From this CGM, appropriate design values were determined and the working platform design completed.
