2018 Glossop Lecture: Lines of Evidence

A very worthwhile hour for any engineering geologist or ground related professional. Kevin Privett talks on ‘The lines of evidence approach to challenges faced in engineering geological practice’.

The past is the key to the future: a better understanding of site history leads to better predictions of engineering behaviour of the ground. Engineering geology is a multi-faceted discipline that is ever expanding and there are three interlocking themes that enhance the skills of an engineering geological consultant:

  1. working with multiple disciplines, being versatile and adaptable to change;
  2. possessing a wide range of knowledge and experience; and
  3. using lessons of the past

Dr Privett illustrates through the use of a range of case histories how these themes can provide multiple lines of evidence which reduce uncertainty and provide better understanding of projects in engineering geology.
